Hope

The Plans I Have for You

The Plans I Have for You

Few of us will ever live in Exile, thank God. Few of us will face what these people faced, or what my own ancestors faced. But there are challenges enough for all of us. Challenges about what it means to be faithful when the world seems to turn upside down. Challenges about believing God is with us, when it seems like God is silent. Challenges in times of loss, or when we are living in a new time, or a new place, and nothing seems familiar. Those times when our very identity is shaken.

Do not lose hope, the Lord tells us. Do not look for easy answers, because they will always disappoint you. But look for my presence. Because even here, even now, in whatever trial you face or trauma you experience, even there, I am with you. And wherever I am, you are home.

God’s Promise – a World of Hope

God’s Promise – a World of Hope

Destruction is not God’s intention: re-creation is!

I for one am searching for a word of hope, and I think scripture provides just that. I think these verses reaffirm God’s deep and wide love for the world, God’s desire to refresh us and renew us, God’s vision for community where tears are dried and death will be no more. Someday…. Somewhere…

Let these words of the Revelation do this for you as well… let them reawaken something deep inside you. Let yourself remember your own longing, and feel it, deeply.

Let God’s word draw you toward something wonderful, and beautiful. A vision of what can be.

Hope from Saints

Hope from Saints

"We do this by remembering the saints of our life. We turn to their stories, and lift up the memories of all of the saints we’ve known in our lives, and even those we haven’t known who have gone before us.

We meet them here at this table and here they are restored to full life, just as we are.

We remember how they lived,
how they found hope,
how they shared grace with others,
and how they passed it on to us.

And somewhere along the way, in these memories or at this table… we find hope that God’s kingdom is not some far off hope, but something that is coming closer to us every day."
