Children’s Faith Formation
God’s grace meets us at every age.
First Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministries create a nurturing and engaging environment for children from birth through sixth grade, where they can know, love, and serve God, each other, and the world. With engaging lessons, meaningful experiences, and deep friendships, children are invited to imagine, learn, and grow in the presence of God’s goodness. Our team of committed staff and faith-filled volunteers is dedicated to partnering alongside families to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love for God.
Sunday Mornings
Prayground
Located in the sanctuary at the tables, our prayground offers a welcoming space where children can engage with their faith through Scripture-based hands-on activities during worship. This experience allows children to fully participate in worship, while also providing activities that engage their energy and curiosity.
Rest of the Story
After the Word with Children, preschool through third-grade children are invited to a worship experience tailored to their age group! They leave the service with a staff member or a trained volunteer for “worship” in the library, then return to the sanctuary before the service ends. This offering takes place every Sunday, except the first Sunday of the month, when the congregation takes part in Communion.
Kindergarten to Sixth Grade
Every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
in the Centenary UMC Basement
Our Children’s Ministry is a vibrant group with an immense imagination. With this in mind, we are using a curriculum called “Disciples and Dragons.” Every week, we start our time together with time-traveling our adventurous crew into a Bible story. As the story unfolds, children imagine what it would feel like to exist in the story. After our adventure, we read the Bible story making incredible connections!
Special Events
We give thanks for the traditions that have carried us through various seasons! Some traditional events for First Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministry include the Granville Ecumenical Vacation Bible School, a Christmas pageant, and an Easter Egg Hunt. We host various events throughout the year to build community and create imaginative experiences that help children grow in the goodness of God.
Major Milestones
Baptism is a moment in one’s faith when one experiences the abundant grace of God. The sacrament of baptism, the sign and seal of God’s grace and our response, is the foundational recognition of Christian commitment. Within the PC(USA), infant baptism is the traditional practice. However, anyone at any age who has not previously been baptized is invited to experience this holy gift. For more information about baptism in the Presbyterian Church, click here.
