John Rutter Requiem
Sunday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary

As we honor All Saints Sunday on November 1, we have a moment to recognize and remember the saints in our own lives. During this offering, First Presbyterian Church’s Chancel Choir and Instrumental Ensemble will present John Rutter’s glorious Requiem. John Rutter first wrote this choral work in 1985, quickly becoming a staple in the choral repertoire. It is composed in member of his father, and the seven sections of the work form an arch-like meditation on themes of life and death. There are grand moments such as the pleading “Agnus Dei,” which builds to an anguished forte, and the “Sanctus” as an affirmation of divine glory. Throughout, there are hauntingly beautiful movements that express serenity, light, and the promise of eternal rest.
