Our committee has been meeting monthly over the past year, and this past winter and spring has been a particular time of joy and discernment as we learn and hear from each other.

During the month of March, the committee hosted three different book clubs all focused on discussing the incisive book by David P. Gushee entitled, Changing Our Mind. About 30 folks gathered throughout the week. Book clubs met Thursday afternoons, Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. These book groups brought up many insightful and meaningful discussions that continue to help lead the task force as we move toward what it means to be a welcome and inclusive body of believers as pertaining to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Moving forward, we want to encourage more great discussions within the congregation. Every second Sunday in June, July and August, the committee will be holding a round table discussion with all those interested in continuing to pull threads from the tapestry of all that was discussed in March. You do not have to have read the book to come and join in the discussion. As the hymn says “All Are Welcome.”
